One Shot and One Arrested in Home Invasion Attempt
Ohio County Indiana — Schools where shut down in Rising Sun yesterday morning after reports of shots fired at a nearby home.
According to Ohio County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to a home located on State Road 262 at around 6 a.m.
When officers arrived at the scene, they contacted the victim who told them 3 men had forced their way into his home. A struggle had ensued, and the resident was able to get to a firearm. He shot at the suspects and they turned and immediately fled the scene on foot.
Officers found one man in the area bleeding from a gunshot wound to the abdomen and transported him to a hospital in Cincinnati for treatment. Another man, 34-year-old Marcus Donald was also arrested after he was located nearby the scene and charged with conspiracy to commit murder. The third suspect was not found and remains at large at this time.
Law enforcement officials say the investigation is ongoing and more charges and arrests might be coming.
With the 3rd suspect unaccounted for, schools remained closed as the manhunt continued, though police say they feel there is no current risk to public safety.
Branden Roeder, superintendent for Rising Sun School told WLTW5:
“Safety is our No. 1 priority. With that in the middle of the morning, it’s dark out, we have bus riders that are waiting by the road for the bus to pick them up, and the last thing we wanted to happen was our students to be outside with an armed person at large.”
